The Kaleidoscope Colours of God

As someone who comes from a monotheist tradition, I do find myself a little envious of religions which have a spectrum of Gods.  It just seems like more fun. Of course, we do let ourselves go a bit when it comes to the Virgin Mary. We have Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of Fatima and in Spain, where I live, we have more virgins than you can shake a stick at – Virgen de los Desamparados, Nuestra Señora del Remedio, Nuestra Señora de la Bien Aparecida etc etc ad infinitum.

And I love that. I love the idea of seeing God through a prism and delighting in the colours. A harp is a harp but each string has a different resonance.

Elephant gods, monkey gods, local gods, Vishnu, Krishna and big, fat Buddha form a carnival of creativity dedicated to helping us light our way to Heaven. Not the Yellow Brick Road…but the green, purple, orange, Catholic, Hindu, Muslim and Buddhist Brick Road.

Isn’t that what stained glass windows are all about anyway? The glory of God in a rainbow?
