Being Selfish

Sometimes I feel like a bull who dozed off in a summer meadow and when I woke up some bastard had built a china shop around me. I mean, really. If someone’s happiness depends on me, they bet on the wrong horse..or bull. Or whatever.

Love others as you love yourself means you have to love yourself first. That’s not selfish. It’s healthy. It’s a celebration of self.

And sometimes you might get to feel that your centre resides in another person. That’s not a negation of self. It’s an extension of self. And another cause for celebration.

Selfish, on the other hand,  is overshadowing another person; draining them like a vampire, negating their uniqueness or gate-crashing their lives uninvited. Not letting them breathe. Building bloody china shops around them.
